Nikon F

NIKON - 1961 - JAPAN (TOKYO)

  • Compact
  • 35 mm
  • Rare

The Nikon F, introduced in April 1959, was Nikon's first SLR (Single Lens Reflex) camera and one of the most advanced cameras of its day.

Camera of choice for most photojournalists across the globe, very few cameras scream adventure and travel as much as the Nikon F. From the Vietnam war to the NASA astronauts, the Nikon F was literally present on all fronts. The reputation of robustness and regularity of this camera was immense, and well deserved.

Its distinctive design and obvious F logo made it an absolute icon for all travelling reporters. Purchasing a Nikon F was a statement and with this model Nikon established unbreakable bonds with several generations of photographers, even after the disappearance of the model. It was so popular that Nikon kept the F followed by a number for all worthy successors.

In contrast to most vintage cameras that feel 'damaged' by dents, scratches or repairs, every Nikon F proudly carries its scars as tokens of the adventures it went through (or so it feels when you look at this one that actually was the property of a war photo reporter in the 60s). That's the privilege of legends.
